Here you can like and follow so you are always kept in the loop of what we get up to. I'd like to welcome Bella our new Golden Retriever puppy to the setting.
We've had a dog for 13 years prior to Bella but sadly lost her just before Christmas. We feel that Bella will be a great asset to the setting as she is gentle and calm (despite being a puppy) and will teach children how to be around animals (especially those who do not have pets). She is already very excited when the children arrive, wanting to be part of the 'team'! Spring is just around the corner!
We are starting to see daffodils appear despite the cold weather and all the flooding we have experienced lately. We look forward to looking at more flowers with trips to garden centres and parks. Mothers Day is next followed by Easter where we will be celebrating with each other and our friends. Here are some of the activities and crafts we did for Christmas
- making snowmen, decorating a tree, choosing a real tree, making a wreath, discovering the lights and seeing Father Christmas! Training day today - Outdoor learning.
I am pleased to announce that I am now a Forest Childcare Provider. I believe that spending time outdoors is very important both physically and mentally. I will take the children out weekly to explore the natural environment. This might include a trip to the park or further afield to explore the woods. Some children will benefit from this activity each week, some less often depending on how often each child attends but all children will get an opportunity throughout each month. We visited the local arboretum to collect conkers and leaves as a base for you Autumn theme.
We were welcomed by a squirrel. Lots of playing in the fallen leaves and conker collecting. We mixed paints to create Autumn colours and used our conkers to make our own artwork. We used different utensils to scoop and lift conkers too. We've had a fun and active Literacy week. Looking at signs, new and old books for story time both inside and out. Lots of mark making using pens, crayons, chalks and shaving foam! We've been improving our writing and copying our names. Matching pictures with similar sounds and listening and saying the initial letter of words too.
This week we've focused on our physical development but still following the childrens interests. We've used our fine motor skills to manipulate play dough, using scissors and threading pipe cleaners We've been to the park to climb, run, jump and balance to develop our gross motor skills. Health and self-care also comes under physical development so we visited the Whole Foods store to compare healthy foods, select nuts and seeds and weighed them too (bit of Maths thrown in there!) We talked about which are the healthy foods and which aren't. |
