Here are a few tips on how you can support your child at home to become happy confident children.
Encourage your child to do things for themselves. e.g taking their own shoes off, zipping up their own coat. Trying to carry a shopping bag. They may struggle but offer help after they have tried on their own first.
Reading stories to them and singing nursery rhymes. All children enjoy this. As they get older they can fill in the missing words of a song/story.
Praise them all the time. Even if its just something small, like doing as they are told straight away.. All children feel good about themselves when they are acknowledged. for good behaviour.
Counting simple everyday objects. E.g. steps up to bed, dogs on your walk.
Listen to them, they want to be heard. Don't interrupt them, it may be slow but they will be pleased that they have been heard.
Encourage manners - sitting at the table, asking to leave the table, please and thank you, sharing and taking turns, being polite and kind to others. This will help them socially.
