About The Setting
7My name is Angela (although I prefer Angie!) and I have been an Independent Ofsted Registered Childminder since 2003.
I am married to Adrian with 2 children, a son aged 26 years and a daughter aged 23 years, therefore I understand the importance of having happy, confident children with a new addition - a granddaughter!
Also in our family is a 3 year golden retriever! We lost our 13 year old dog sadly at Christmas 2019 and because we are huge dog lovers our house felt empty. This is a great learning experience for children who may or may not have pets at home. We have raised a puppy before and no child will be left unattended with any pets at any time. I'm sure she thinks all the children have come to see her. She is so kind natured, greets every child on arrival and loves to sleep when when we have our 'quiet time' after lunch. The children learn to be 'calm' around Bella and respect her space. A great learning tool for children.
Children's physical and mental wellbeing is strongly supported at the setting with discussions about our own feelings and of others. We go on many nature walks to support our mental health, listening to the peace and quiet and observing how we feel.
We have lived in Churchdown for over 20 years and enjoy living here as we are within driving distance from both Cheltenham and Gloucester where there are many places to visit.
We have several parks locally, and our favourite woods all within walking distance as well as shops, chemist, newsagent and library.
The setting is based on the Hygge way - relaxed, natural and cosy yet fun. I have just completed my 'Hygge in the Early Years' Accreditation.
Plastic toys are kept to a minimum with the emphasis on wooden, natural and open-ended loose parts which encourages the children to use their senses and imagination to create what they wish. But like I said, we do still have some plastic toys as they do have a purpose.
It is a slow progression transitioning from a bright plastic setting to a more natural cosy setting so it is ongoing and more resources are added regularly and more is yet to come!
I hold my public liability insurance via Childcare.co.uk.
I am able to offer the government funding for 2, 3 & 4 year olds (subject to criteria met and availability). This allows me to care for 2, 3 & 4 year olds who are entitled to up to 15 hours of free education a week during term time 38 week of the year. This can be shared between 2 settings, i.e. nursery/playgroup/preschool. I do recommend that children in receipt of the funding do a minimum of 2 days at my setting to allow for me to plan activities to enhance their learning and development. This has now extended to allow up to 30 hours educational hours for qualifying 3 & 4 year olds. This can be discussed.
